Chase Goals, Not Distractions: The Value of Coaching

You might be wondering why you have a coach by your side, guiding you through your fitness journey. The answer is simple: in the vast world of health and fitness, there's an overwhelming abundance of options, and not all of them are suitable for your unique goals. We all know the feeling – the allure of trendy diet plans, enticing supplements, intriguing workout programs, or even the temptation of the Workout of the day (WOD) challenges.

It's easy to be enticed by the next big thing, but attempting to do it all can lead to counterproductive results. I've been there too, and it's a common pitfall.

Overtraining and the fear of injury are well-known concerns, but what many overlook is that there's an optimal amount of training, just as there's an optimal amount of food to eat. Too little, and your progress moves at a snail's pace. However, doing too much can have the same effect, if not worse.

At CrossFit 1864, we chose CrossFit for our group training because it strikes a perfect balance. It's not too little, and it's not too much – it's just right. Even though CrossFit workouts are challenging, many individuals are tempted to go above and beyond by adding "recovery runs" or cramming multiple workouts into a single day. This isn't the path to success, and it's crucial to understand that more isn't always better. What you should be aiming for is not more; it's better.

The reason you have a coach is simple – they act as your filter in this sea of possibilities. Your coaches are here to guide you towards what's optimal for you, not what's minimal or excessive.

At CrossFit 1864, we value your progress and well-being. That's why we encourage you to have a one-on-one, in-person conversation with our coaches every 3-4 months. During these sessions, we perform an InBody assessment, discuss your goals, review your progress, and then prescribe the best possible plan tailored to your needs.

What we want to avoid is guesswork. We don't want you to jump on the bandwagon of fad diets just because it's the latest trend. We don't want you to follow extreme practices like drinking a gallon of milk a day just because it's circulating online (fun fact: this was a CrossFit fad back in 2011 – we didn't join that one).

Even following the crowd in your gym might not be the best choice, as their program is theirs and not necessarily right for you. Remember, you train in a group, but your fitness journey is tailored to you – that's the essence of our coaching philosophy.

So, the next time you stumble upon a challenging workout online and think, "Wow, that looks intense! I should try it after the noon group tomorrow," pause for a moment.

Instead of impulsively diving in, consult your coach first. As someone who learned the hard way through trial and error, trust me when I say that your coach's guidance is your most valuable asset on the road to success.
